Adjudicator's Comments:
Schenectady Light Opera continues its successful presentation of unique and difficult musicals.
John Weidman's book about the ASSASSINS who have taken target at our presidents combined with the music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim demands strong vocals, actors representing the physical types, costumes and set pieces of the era. Director Joseph Fava chose his cast wisely and presented them on a set of many levels portraying a shooting gallery in a carnival like atmosphere. Musical Director Sherri Strichman brought out the richness of the voices.
Sev Moro as the Balladeer provided the thread throughout the time periods which Bob Hegeman as the Proprieto opens the show with pizazz and set the style, tone and mood of the piece. It takes courage to put on this show and
There are three (3) separate categories of Merit Awards as follows:
"Outstanding" - To be issued to the whole or part of the whole of a theatrical event or production of a superlative quality rarely witnessed or experienced by the adjudicator.
"Excellence" - To be issued to the whole or part of the whole of a theatrical event or production considered by the adjudicator to be of exceptional merit surpassing the norm.
"Meritorious Achievement" - To be issued to the whole or part of the whole of a theatrical event or production considered by the adjudicator to be worthy of special recognition.
