Cast Meets Jason Robert Brown

The cast of 13 had the distinct pleasure of meeting the show's creator, Jason Robert Brown.

Jason was very down-to-earth and approachable to all.  The kids adored him, and, after a brief period where the kids initially appeared shell-shocked and overwhelmed at being in the same room as Jason, they began to ask questions and to interact with him normally. 

At the workshop, he watched several musical numbers from the show, gave some notes, and then took over the piano and did some aggressive musical practice sessions, working with the kids on timing, enunciation, and listening skills.  Then, he listened to each of the 22 kids sing an audition number they had prepared and gave notes to each, often asking them to repeat a portion of their song.  

He concluded by having a Q&A session where the kids sat around him on the floor of the stage, and finally, he held a signature opportunity where the kids had their cast shirts, posters, and sheet music signed by Jason.  He was immensely helpful in providing musical tips and audition suggestions to each member of the cast.
