Story:
City of Angels blends the mystery and wry
humor of Film Noir with a satirical and
romantic look at Hollywood of the 1940's.
The story traces the misadventures of Stine,
a novelist attempting to write a screenplay
for one of his novels for the dynamic and
manipulative producer, Buddy Fidler while
balancing his troubled relationship with his
wife.
The play interweaves this story with the
actual events of the screenplay. As Stine
writes the play, each scene is played out by
his detective alter ego, Stone as the
characters switch from a color world to the
black and white of the detective film.
People from Stine's life are reborn as
character's in Stone's story.
Winner of six Tony Awards, nine Drama Desk
awards and The New York Drama Critics Award
for Best Musical, City of Angels is the
rarest of musical comedies; one that is not
only loaded with music and written in the
contemporary jazz idiom, but also filled
with sidesplitting comedy and intense
emotions.
